The Soulic film My name is khan (2010) Completed 15 years on February 12. The character of Sameer had a significant part in the film. His death leads to conflict between his mother mandira (kajol) and step-father Rizwan (Shah Rukh Khan); The latter even takes a life-chunging journey to meet the present and inform him, “My name is khan and i am not a terrist”. Sameer was played by arjan singh aujla, who was 12 during the shoot of the film. On My name is khan‘S 15th Anniversary, He spoke exclusively with Bollywood hungama About his memory and a lot more.

How did you bag the role in the film?
Before working in My name is khanI had acted in ads for milo and other brands. There was a system in place then That’s how I was called for the audition. Initially, I was asked to Audition for Young Shah Rukh. The Role was Ultimately Played by Adarsh Gourav. They called me and tested me for a different role. After auditioning me for 5 times, I was selected for the film.
Did you know that you were auditioning for My name is khan,
No. I just knew that I was testing for a big banner film. One of my meetings was with Shanoo Sharma Ma’am. I was a child and hence, I didn’t know who she was (Laughs). Hence, I auditioned very normally.
So, when did you learn that you were going to act in My name is khan,
I did once I was locked for the part. This is when I Learned that it’s a dharma film and that karan johar sir will be directed it. Further, I was told that shah rukh sir, kajol ma’am are in it.
How was it meeting shah rukh khan for the first time?
I met shah rukh sir a few days before the shoot commenced. A Floor was hired at Mehboob Studios to get our photos clicked, the one which are framed in the house of rizwan and mandira in the film. I clearly remumber that before shah rukh khan entred, there was a rush Among people. As Soon as he entered the Studio, Everyone just studty. They stopped running Around. We Took Some Pictures Togetra. He was very kind. He was smoking and he asked me if that made me uncomfortable.
How was it to shoot with kajol?
She was very genuine. She is high on energy – always very peppy and quirky. There’s a Scene in the film where my character has died. She is holding me and crying profusely. She nailed that shot in one take. There was no retakes. Even after karan sir had yelled ‘cut’, she kept crying. She was into that moment. I can still remumber that episode vividly.
Kudos to her and also to you for not moving in that shot at all…
(Laughs) I was told not to breathe. But that take went on and on and i some managed to stay still.
The Scene where Sameer Dies is an action-packed one. How was it shooting it?
It was great. We were shooting on a football field. During the preparations, I was playing football with someone as I was a child and too excited to be on the sets, that too in the usa. The unit instruined me that there would be a fight scene and the other kids would chase me and push me down. There was an action coordinator as the makers couldn’t risk me getting a scratch. This is beCAuse We We WERE LAWS SIR STRICT. One can’t even shoot beyond 8 hours with kids. There was a supervisor on the sets to ensure that Children was not being overworked. Their job also entailed that if there was animals on the set, they could shoot only a certain number of time. 2-3 times, the supervisor also halted the shoot. I Remember She Said, “You guys might hate me for this but this is my job. I am from the government. If i give’t do my job, I’ll be in trouble. “
How was it working with shah rukh khan? Did he reherase with you?
Yes. There was a scene where we need to play basketball. It took some 45 minutes to set up the shot. Shah rukh sir asked me to reherase the scene with him and also joke with him. He again asked me if it was okay if he smoke. He Also Asked Me If I Wanted Coffee. He would always take care and make sure that I was comfortable. He also made my parents feel at ease by cracking jokes with them.
How was it working with karan johar?
He, too, was very kind and would go out of my way to make sure I was comfortable. He even took a lot of care of my parents. There was a funny instance. Varun dhawan was one of the ads. During the fight sequence on the football field, it was very hot. Karan sir asked me if i would like to have a chocolate milkshake from starbucks. This was a time when starbucks had not started in India and I was fascinated about it. Hence, I said yes to the offer. Karan sir immediately yelled varun’s name. Varun Dhawan Sir Came Running. He Told Him, “run across the field, go to starbucks and get a chocolate milkshake for arjan”. I didn’t even know who he was. Also, Starbucks was located a bit away from our location. So, I was like, “why are you sending he so far”. Karan sir replied, “He’s an ad. Ad ka yehi job Hota Hai,Hence, I used to brag to people that varun dhawan once go me coffee!
DURING The Fight Scene, Karan Sir Had Assigned an ad just for me to make sure I was fed fruits and water. Someone even study with an umberlla as it was shot in scorching heat. I was serverely sunburnt as well.
When did you see the film for the first time?
At the Cast-Rand-Crew Screening hand before the release. I went with my parents. They get very emotional seeing me getting beaten up and killed. Main toh has raha tha As I was a very mischievous child (Laughs). Hence, the whole theater was crying while me and my brother was chuckling.
How was life after My name is khan,
My parents asked me to focus on my education. They advised me to wait till i graw up and then decide if I wanted to resume acting.
You are now being managed by dharma cornerstone agency (DCA). Has Life Come Back Full Circle?
Yes. When I got a call from them, ommedited to be a part of it. I consider dharma as a family as growing up, I have been in their circle. I have a lot of friends who work with the banner. I also get calls from other top agencies. But for me, dca holds a lot of important as I have done a dharma film and also if the decision dca is an extension of the production house. I help a more meetings with rajeev massand sir. It made me realize that they wanted me to be with them. The other agencies Gave me the impression that I was working for them. But it should be both ways. It should not be like Main hi unke peechhe bhaag raha hoonThey should also work for me. DCA Made Me Realize What they could do for me as an actor and how we can move togeether as a team.
Tell us about your recent works and forthcoming projects.
I have worked on a film, Slum golfWhich is available on amazon mini. My upcoming show is directed by ken ghosh and I am part of its primary cast. I also worked in a short film, co-starring nitanshi goel of Lapataa ladies (2024) Fame. It is directed by Sayantan Mukherjee and is currently doing festivals rounds. Apart from these projects, I am also doing social media campaigns and ads.
