The re-release trend proved to be a blessing for exhibitors and moviegoers in 2024. It provided content to cinemas during the dry periods and also allowed the audience to experience the magic of older classics in cinemas. The trend has spilled over to 2025 and the first film to take advantage of it is Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013). It re-releases on January 3 and the bookings have been encouraging.

As of 1:30 pm on Thursday, January 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has sold 12,000 tickets in the national chains for the opening day, that is, around 10,000 tickets in PVR Inox and 2,000 tickets in Cinepolis. This is an encouraging sign and shows that there’s a huge demand to watch the Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer on the big screen.
With these ticket sales, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is expected to open in the range of Rs. 50 lakhs. If this happens, it’ll emerge as the second biggest re-release opener after Tumbbad, which opened at Rs. 1.10 crores.
Looking at the demand, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has got 3-4 shows in major multiplexes. The showcasing can increase over the weekend if the demand rises. What’s also heartening is that the ticket rates are priced at a maximum of Rs. 149.
Interestingly, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani was also released during Valentine’s Day 2024 when its performance was lesser compared to what it’ll do tomorrow probably as the re-release trend picked up later.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is produced by Karan Johar and also stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin. It is the story of four friends who go on a life-changing trip to Himachal Pradesh and what happens during their reunion several years later.
