A case of suicide of a 19 year old college student has come to light in Malappuram, Kerala. In this case, the girl’s family has lodged a complaint that her husband and in-laws used to taunt her about her looks and weak English.
This first year B.Sc Mathematics student was found dead at her home in Kondotty in Malappuram district on the morning of January 14. She was married last May to a young man working in Abu Dhabi while her in-laws were here. Shahana’s family alleged that her husband and in-laws had forced her to take this step.
According to the girl’s uncle, after the marriage in May, both of them lived happily in his house for about 22 days. After this the boy left for Abu Dhabi. Later, he started ignoring the girl and harassing her because of her color and limited English proficiency.
After this, when he stopped receiving the girl’s calls, she kept sending him messages asking him to answer. In such a situation, when she told her mother-in-law about this, her mother-in-law asked her that when it was only a 22-day relationship, then why was she hanging on to this relationship. She also told her that her son wanted a girl who was more Should be mature and fair in complexion. The mother-in-law said that she will now find a better partner for her son.
