At least 38 people have died and 13 others are injured in a horrific road accident in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state. The accident occurred when a tire of the bus burst, causing the driver to lose control and the bus collided with a truck. This information was given by the fire department officials, who reached the incident site and conducted the rescue operation.

Local officials said that there were 45 passengers on board the bus which had left from Sao Paulo, but its tire burst on the way and then collided with a truck. After this, a car also came and collided with the bus, in which it is being said that there were three passengers on board, who survived. The accident happened at 4 in the morning.

In the pictures from the spot, it can be seen that a truck is mounted on the crushed car, its wheel is on the roof of the car. Minas Gerais Fire Department says that the accident happened on the highway BR-116. The debris of the vehicle can be seen in the pictures after the accident. A picture of the fire in the bus also surfaced, in which the bus is seen burning.

An officer said that the police team reached the spot. The victims were taken to the hospital from the scene. Minas Gerais Governor Romeu Zema said on Twitter that he has given orders to “assist the victims and support their families” in the tragic accident that occurred on the BR-116 in Teofilo Otoni.

The road traffic fatality rate in Brazil was 15.7 per 100,000 people in 2021, which is much higher than 8.8 in Argentina. Regarding road safety, Brazil has set a target of halving the number of deaths by 2030, which is expected to save 86,000 lives. In a similar accident in September, a bus overturned, killing three people.
