Cricket Commentary in Parliament: A serious issue of cricket was raised in Parliament on Monday (February 10). The case was of a cricket commentary on All India Trinamool Congress (TCM) Rajya Sabha MP Mohammad Nadeemul Haque. He raised this issue in the Rajya Sabha.

This ambition of the MP was also appreciated by Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. Nadeemul demanded the continuation of cricket commentary on All India Radio. He said that Akashvani should comment in cricket in every language. He said that he does not send commentators on venue citing funds.

BCCI does not give the right to broadcast

Nadeemul said that Akashvani has access to crores of people. This capacity should be used. He also said that despite making such a huge reach, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not give AIR to Broadcast of Cricket Commentary. It is to keep people away from their rights.

Nadeemul said- ‘The government has been ending the tradition of cricket commentary on radio for years. There have been many veteran commentators in Radio Cricket Commentary. Why are Indian cricket commentary on radio now in such a bad situation. It is boring in Hindi except Sushil Doshi and Vineet and Sunil Gupta in English and Prakash Wankar.

About 17 million people listen to podcast

The TCM MP said, ‘Good content and world class cricket is likely to reach more and more audiences for Akashvani. BBC and ABC always use good commentators. AIR is the national broadcover of the country. It has 591 stations, which reach 98% of the population.

He said, ‘In the first three months of 2022, the average of AIR was 2 crores every month. The number of podcast listeners in India is estimated to be around 17 crores, yet the BCCI and the channel do not give radio rights to All India Radio.
