According to media reports, this decision was being taken by the government, so that Muslim people can be prevented from becoming a wrong attitude for Islam by going to the programs of other religion. However, the government of Malaysia was surrounded by criticisms due to its decision.

Sultan of Selangore strongly criticized the government’s decision

Sultan Shafuddin Idris Shah, Sultan of Selangor state of Malaysia, also strongly criticized the government. Seeing the increase in the dispute, the government withdrew its decision.

Sultan Shafuddin Idris Shah, Sultan of Selangore state, said that this decision of the government is going to promote controversy, which can have a wrong effect on religious harmony. He further said, “Muslims will never be weak faith in Islam by joining other religions.

The Sultan further said that Malaysia is a multicultural country where people follow various religions and beliefs. Therefore, religious tolerance can never be compromised here. He further said that instead of doing such things, Muslims should understand Islam deeply to strengthen their faith.

As soon as Sultan’s statement came, the Malaysia government immediately appeared active. After the statement of Sultan, Religious Affairs Minister Mohammad Naeem Mokhtar said that the government will fulfill the Sultan’s will immediately.

Government announced announcement last week, dispute started
Last Wednesday, Anwar government minister Mohammad Naeem had said that the government is going to release guidelines for the involvement of Muslims in non-Islamic programs. According to guidelines, if a Hindu or Buddhist temple in Malaysia, a program of a church or gurudwara will have to be obtained from the Islamic Dharma Guru first to call Muslims.

Non-Muslim religious groups also opposed this decision of the Malaysian government. Non-Muslim groups of Malaysia have described this decision as impractical and unnecessary. He believes that this guideline of the government will reduce the goodwill and respect that has been strong for years among various religions in Malaysian society.

However, later Prime Minister Anwar said that these guidelines are not necessary as Muslims are capable of protecting their religion and do not need to stop them from going to other religious places. After which the government has taken a U turn from its decision.
