Junior athletes, who won medals at the international level, will no longer get cash prizes from the government. This policy change of the Sports Ministry has come into force from 1 February. The goal of which is to deal with double threats of doping and age fraud as well as to win hunger in young people.
Earlier, the player used to get around Rs 13 lakh for winning the gold medal in the Junior World Championship, while the player had a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh for winning the gold medal in the Junior World Championship.
On ‘Indian Express’, an official of the Sports Ministry said that a major reason behind this decision is to promote junior events by not limiting them to podium finish.
This official said- We saw that only India follows the model where the junior championship is given more importance, as a result, the athletes work so hard at that level, but by the time they reach the top level, then Till they either get tired or their victory ends hunger.
The niyam also changed for the senior athlete …
The award policy for senior athletes has also been changed. The Sports Ministry has removed the Commonwealth Championship and South Asian Games from the award list. Chess players who win the international master or Grandmaster criteria will no longer get encouragement.
Why the Ministry of Sports Sports has taken this decision
In the last few years, cash incentive has been considered one of the reasons that motivate athletes and their coaches to commit age fraud and doping crimes. As of January 13, according to data from the National Anti -Doping Agency, there are more than 10% of the dope criminals in India since 2022, ie 22 out of 204.
Although there is no central system to monitor the number of players who have been rigged in age, hundreds of players have been suspended in various sports in the last few years and many other players have survived.
