Actor Arjun Kapoor recently opened up about the emotional challenges he faced during his childhood, including his parents’ separation and the subsequent changes in his family dynamics. Speaking candidly on Raj Shamani’s podcast, the actor reflected on how these experiences impacted him personally and professionally.

Coping with Parental Separation
Arjun’s parents, Boney Kapoor and Mona Shourie, separated when he was just 10 years old. Reflecting on that period, Arjun shared, “My parents split up when I was 10 years old. That’s something that, at that point, didn’t feel like it would shape me, but when I look back, it changed the course of my life entirely.”
Arjun revealed that his father’s busy film commitments made their relationship less conventional. “We never had a normal father-son relationship where he came to school to pick me up or drop me,” he said, adding that he only began spending more quality time with his father in the last five years.
The Impact on Academics and Maturity
The separation also had a significant impact on Arjun’s education and personal growth. “I was a naughty kid but good with studies until the fourth standard. After the split, I lost interest in education. It felt like a rebellious reaction,” Arjun admitted. Despite the challenges, he credits his family and friends for providing a support system during this turbulent phase.
Arjun also highlighted how the experience pushed him to mature quickly. “I became too aware and responsible ahead of my time. I wanted to ensure I didn’t lose my connection with my father,” he said.
Finding Solace in Films
Films became a medium of connection for Arjun and his father. “That’s how I connected with my father. I didn’t want to lose that connection,” he explained. This bond eventually paved the way for Arjun’s entry into Bollywood, starting with his debut in Ishaqzaade,
Rationalizing Boney Kapoor’s Marriage to Sridevi
Discussing his father’s marriage to the late actress Sridevi, Arjun said, “As long as he was happy with what he had done, I was okay with it. Even if I wasn’t, I rationalized it in my head at a young age.”
The actor also recalled losing his mother, Mona Shourie, to cancer in 2012, just before the release of IshaqzaadeCalling it a traumatic time, he said, “I lost my backbone.”
