Attempt to smuggle drugs on India-Nepal border foiled, one arrested with smack worth Rs 50 lakh – Man held with drugs worth Rs 50 lakh near Indo Nepal border in up lclk

A person has been arrested near the India-Nepal border in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh on charges of smuggling drug smack worth about Rs 50 lakh. The arrest was made during a joint operation conducted by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and local police.

Dilip Kumar, Deputy Commandant of 42nd Battalion of SSB, said that on the basis of secret information, at around 10 pm on Thursday night, a joint patrolling team of SSB and Rupaidiha Police stopped a suspicious person near Border Pillar No. 651/11. During the search, 70 grams of smack was recovered from a black polythene bag hidden in his pant pocket.

According to the news agency report, the arrested person has been identified as Ram Sagar, a resident of Dubidhapur village of Rupaidiha police station area. During initial interrogation, Ram Sagar revealed that this drug was given to him by a person from Bahraich and he was instructed to deliver it to a Nepali person in Nepalganj.

Dilip Kumar said that the value of the seized smack in the international market has been estimated to be around Rs 50 lakh. Nanpara Circle Officer Pradyuman Kumar Singh said that the seized drugs have been sealed and a case has been registered against the accused at Rupaidiha police station under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The accused has been sent to judicial custody. SSB and local police have decided to increase surveillance on the border.
