The interim government of Bangladesh on Tuesday canceled the passport of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This decision has been taken under the leadership of Nobel laureate and current interim government head Mohammad Yunus. The move comes in the wake of a string of criminal cases involving the names of Sheikh Hasina and her supporters.
Passports of a total of 97 people including Sheikh Hasina have been cancelled. Of these, 22 are facing charges for their involvement in alleged kidnapping, while 75 others face charges of murder during the anti-student protests last year.

ICT’s arrest warrant against 11 including Sheikh Hasina!
This comes a day after the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) issued arrest warrants against Sheikh Hasina and 11 others. They are accused of kidnapping and extrajudicial killings during Hasina’s rule.
Order to arrest everyone and present them in court by 12th February
During the hearing on January 6, the tribunal ordered Sheikh Hasina and other accused to be arrested by February 12 and presented in the court. The other accused include Hasina’s former defense adviser Major General (retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddiqui, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed; And Ziaul Ahsan, former Director General of National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC).

230 people were killed in violence last year
More than 230 people have been killed in violence in Bangladesh since the fall of Hasina government, taking the death toll during anti-student protests to more than 600. This movement started against a controversial quota system in government jobs. Bangladeshi Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina left the country on August 5 last year and took refuge in India, where Bangladesh is continuously demanding her extradition.
