Canada and India – Another U-turn by Trudeau government of Canada, now there will be no strict screening of Indians at the airport – Canadian govt withdraws extra screening measure for Indian travelers ntc
Amidst the ongoing strained relations between India and Canada, the Justin Trudeau government of Canada has taken another U-turn. According to the report of CBC News, the Canadian government has taken a decision a few days ago to conduct additional security checks for travelers coming to India. The decision has been withdrawn. This step was taken amid diplomatic tension between the two countries over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Transport Minister Anita Anand, while announcing increased testing earlier this week, had said that every passenger coming to India will be subjected to more stringent security and screening at the airport. “As an abundance of caution, the Government of Canada will temporarily conduct additional security screening of travelers traveling to India,” Anand said in a statement.
Long queues started forming at the airport
Now the government has not mentioned the reasons for removing the new protocol. Measures taken by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) included screening passengers and baggage at airports before entering restricted areas. According to reports, additional checks on flights to India led to delays and long queues at airports.

In October, an increase in the investigation was announced after a bomb threat was received on an Air India flight from New Delhi to Chicago. The plane was diverted to Iqaluit, Canada, where after investigation no explosives were found in the plane.
Adding to security concerns, Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu recently issued a public threat against Air India flights from November 1 to 19. The warning came on what Pannu described as the “40th anniversary of the Sikh genocide” in India. Pannu, who holds dual citizenship of Canada and America, has given similar threats in the past also.
Relations between the two countries became tense after Nijjar’s murder.
There is tension between India and Canada ever since Canadian PM Justin Trudeau accused Indian agents of involvement in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Trudeau had made this allegation in September last year. Tension between the two countries increased further when Canadian police accused Indian diplomats of involvement in Nijjar’s murder. After this the diplomatic crisis increased.
