Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored with Dominica’s highest award for his support during the Covid-19 crisis and his efforts to strengthen India-Dominica relations. Dominica President Sylvanie Burton honored PM Modi with the “Dominica Award of Honour” during the India-CARICOM summit in Guyana.
After receiving the award, Narendra Modi said, “I feel honored to be honored with the highest national award by Dominica. I dedicate it to the 140 crore people of India.”
President Burton, you have come to Guyana in person to present me with this award. I thank you very much for this special gesture. India and Dominica are two democracies. Along with this, we are the role model of women empowerment for the whole world, both the countries have women presidents. Draupadi Murmu, the President of India, is the first President to come from the tribal community. Similarly, President Burton is also the first indigenous President of Dominica.”
He further said that both of you are a source of inspiration for all the women of the world. India and Dominica have centuries-old historical and cultural ties. In the 19th century, many Indians made Dominica their home. The foundation laid by him provides a strong foundation to our relations.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a social media post, “President of Dominica Sylvanie Burton honored Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the “Dominica Award of Honour”, the highest national award of the Commonwealth of Dominica. The award is in recognition of the Prime Minister’s role during the Covid pandemic and “Recognizes his contribution to Dominica and his commitment to strengthening India-Dominica relations.”
Let us tell you that the Prime Minister will also receive top awards from Guyana and Barbados, taking the total number of his international awards to 19. Guyana will give Prime Minister Modi its highest national award ‘The Order of Excellence’, while Barbados will honor him with the prestigious ‘Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados’.
