However, in 2007 he lost to BSP’s Haji Akbar. But in 2012 and 2017, he made a comeback and won the Kundarki seat twice in a row. This seat has been considered the stronghold of SP but this time BJP has breached the stronghold of SP, which is no less than a nightmare for Akhilesh Yadav.

Looking at the results, questions are being raised whether BJP got the benefit of division of Muslim votes in Kundarki? Besides, the party also benefited from the aggressive campaign of CM Yogi Adityanath. Ramveer Thakur himself was making every possible effort to make inroads among Muslim voters. The Muslim wing of BJP and Muslim leaders had camped in Kundarki and campaigned vigorously. At the same time, anti-incumbency was also seen against the Samajwadi Party candidate. There is also talk of factionalism among local leaders.

11 Muslim candidates, only BJP fielded Hindu candidate

In Kundarki by-election, Ramveer Thakur from BJP, Raftullah Jaan from BSP, Hafiz Waris from AIMIM and Chand Babu from Azad Samaj Party were in the fray. Whereas, Haji Mohammad Rizwan of SP was considered the strongest candidate. However, this was not visible in the results.

Let us tell you that in this time’s UP by-election, maximum voting took place in Kundarki only. There was 57.7% voting here. There are more than 60% Muslim voters on this seat. In such a situation, the seat where there are maximum number of Muslim voters, the seat where maximum voting took place, the seat where SP gave ticket to a Muslim leader and the seat where BJP has not been able to win elections since 1993. Such a big upset on that seat is surprising the opposition.

Haji Rizwan’s statement

SP candidate Haji Rizwan reacted to Kundarki result. He said that the elections were rigged. The government did not even allow voting to take place, now should we be ready for counting of votes? Minority is unsafe in this government. Elections should be conducted again in Kundarki. There is no trust in UP Police.
