After the 155th passing out parade at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun on Saturday, the country has got 456 young military officers. On this historic occasion, a total of 491 Gentleman Cadets received commission and started their journey in the Armed Forces, out of which cadets are from 35 friendly nations. Held at the drill square of the historic Chetwood Building, the salute was taken by Nepal’s Army Chief, General Ashok Raj Sigdale.
The batch passing out this year included 155 regular course, 44 technical entry scheme (TES-44), 138 technical graduate course and Special Commission Officers (SCO-53) cadets. Apart from this, 35 foreign cadets from 13 friendly countries also completed training, which included two cadets from Nepal Army.
Several awards were presented during the parade-
- Sword of Honour: ACA Jatin Kumar.
- Gold Medal: AUO Pratham Singh (Best Order of Merit).
- Silver Medal: ACA Jatin Kumar (second place).
- Bronze Medal: BUO Mayank Dhyani (3rd place).
- Best Cadet of Technical Graduate Course: Cadet Chirag Yadav.
- Best Cadet of TES-44: Cadet Mahipal Singh.
- Bangladesh Medal (Best Foreign Cadet): Cadet Praveen Pandey (Nepal).
- Chief of Army Staff Banner: Awarded to Jessore Company for first position in overall performance.
Nepal Army Chief congratulated
Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel reviewed the parade and congratulated the cadets for their discipline, hard work and excellent performance. His visit follows the visit of Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi to Nepal in November 2024, where he was conferred the rank of Honorary General of the Nepal Army by Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel.
More than 200 cadets in Nepal Army are trained from this academy.
In his address, General Sigdel praised the historical legacy of IMA and said that more than 200 cadets of Nepal Army have received training from this academy and have reached high positions in Nepal Army. He described this parade as a symbol of deep and strong military relations between the two countries.
An emotional and historic moment
The parade was followed by a Piping Ceremony where the family and loved ones of the cadets placed their ranks on their shoulders and made them commissioned officers. The moment was full of pride and emotions for the cadets and their families.
General Sigdel paid tribute to the martyrs by laying flowers at the war memorial of IMA. He called upon the newly commissioned officers to remain dedicated to serving the country and earn glory through their work.
The 155th Passing Out Parade is a living testament to the high traditions of discipline and training of IMA. The event highlights the strong ties of military cooperation not only for India but also with Nepal and other friendly countries. Lakhs of people watched this historic day live on various media platforms and became a part of this glorious chapter in the cadets’ journey.
