Congress MP Rakesh Rathore, arrested in the rape case, has filed a petition in the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court for bail. Rathore’s bail plea will be heard in the court of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan on 20 February. Congress MP from Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh, Rakesh Rathore was arrested on 30 January. He was absconding since 17 January. A rape case was registered against him. The arrest took place during a press conference at his residence.

Bail plea has been rejected twice
His bail petitions were rejected twice before the arrest. For the first time, the petition was dismissed from the MP/MLA court of Sitapur and then the High Court’s Lucknow bench. The victim lodged a complaint on 15 January, alleging that Rathore sexually abused her for four years by pretending to help in marriage and political career. Rathore is lodged in Sitapur District Jail since his arrest.

On 29 January, the court rejected his anticipatory bail plea, after which he was arrested. On 17 January, the police registered a case on the complaint of the victim.

Rathore’s lawyers Arvind Masdradan and Dinesh Tripathi filed a petition for anticipatory bail in Sitapur court on 20 January, which was rejected on 23 January. He was eventually arrested after not getting relief from the High Court.
