The result of Delhi assembly elections has come. The BJP has won an absolute majority by winning 48 seats in the 70 -member assembly and has ended its own political exile in Delhi. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party, which came out of the Anna movement a decade ago, has lost power in the national capital after a decade. While the BJP is celebrating its victory, there is mourning of defeat in AAP. But for the Congress for the third consecutive time for the Congress, nothing has been touched.
The Congress has been constantly struggling to find its relevance in the national capital for the last decade and a half. In 2013, with the rise of the Aam Aadmi Party, the Congress collapse started in Delhi, which continues uninterrupted. This was the year when the number of Congress seats in the Delhi Assembly declined from 43 to 8 and its vote share fell by 15 per cent. In the next two elections- 2015 and 2020, Congress was reduced to 0 and its vote share 10 per cent Come down from

Congress forfeited for 67 seats
At one time the Congress, the first political choice of the people of Delhi, has failed to make a place in the hearts of Delhiites for the third consecutive time. When the counting of Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 started and Postal ballot was going to be counted, the oldest party in the country was leading in one seat. But as the counting of votes progressed and EVMs started opening, it became clear that the revival of the Congress in Delhi was not done this time. Despite contesting all 70 seats, Congress candidates lost their bail in 67 seats and the three seats where the party managed to save its bail is Badli, Kasturba Nagar and Nangloi Jat.
There are many reasons behind the fall of Congress in Delhi. The party performed very well in the Lok Sabha elections 2024, when Rahul Gandhi marched across the country under his India Jito Yatra. He met the common people and tried to join them. The result of his reach to the public was seen in the Lok Sabha results. But his party failed to take advantage of his unwavering determination to defeat the BJP during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jito Yatra in Delhi.

Congress has no face in Delhi
Not having a strong leader to represent Delhi has proved to be very expensive for the Congress. After Sheila Dixit, the Congress is struggling to find a face in Delhi, which can compete with Arvind Kejriwal. The Congress did not even announce the Chief Minister candidate for the Delhi Election 2025.
Do not count your tasks in Delhi
There is no doubt that when Sheila Dixit was the Chief Minister from 1998 to 2013, there was a large scale work in Delhi. He rapidly expanded the metro network in Delhi and built roads and flyovers on a large scale. The foundation of the new hospital and educational institution was laid. Established Delhi Women’s Commission and also started 181 helpline numbers for women. He also successfully started Green Reforms in Public Transport in Delhi, which shifted the entire Fleet of DTC to CNG with petrol and diesel. However, the Congress has completely failed to showcase these tasks of its government in Delhi. The party needs a leadership in the national capital, which can count the party’s functions and increase the appeal in the public.

The BJP lost several seats in the Lok Sabha elections, when many opposition parties came together as India block despite differences with each other. But this unity of opposition parties did not last long. Just a few months after its good performance in the general elections, India block remained only a name due to internal discord and conflicting ambitions. Its impact was seen in the Haryana elections, where the allies of India Block spoiled the Congress work by fighting separately and the BJP benefited from it. Now with the defeat of the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, the number of governments of India Block in the country has come down to 8. These states are- Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
