Shiv Sena MLAs met at a hotel in Bandra on Sunday, where they re-elected Eknath Shinde as the leader of the Shiv Sena legislature party, after a motion was moved by Uday Samant. Shiv Sena MLAs demanded that Eknath Shinde be made the Chief Minister of Maharashtra again. Shiv Sena spokesperson and newly elected MLA Sanjay Shirsat said, ‘We have achieved a big victory; We feel that Eknath Shinde should become CM again, but this will be decided later.

1) Shiv Sena will keep UBT under control: If Eknath does not become the Chief Minister, it will give the UBT (and MVA) an opportunity to directly target Devendra Fadnavis. UBT will allege that BJP used Shiv Sena’s name and election symbol to come to power and then sidelined it when the time came. Uddhav Sena and other MVA allies will try to turn every decision of the government into a battle of BJP versus Maharashtra.

2) Marathi identity will be strengthened: Mahayuti can strengthen Marathi identity by keeping Eknath Shinde as CM. This decision will reflect the BJP’s generosity and its commitment to respect Marathi identity (an emotional issue for the last several decades).
3) Message of continuing good governance: The mandate given to Mahayuti in Maharashtra elections is also due to the welfare schemes launched by the previous government led by Eknath Shinde.
