Let us tell you that in 1978, 184 people were killed in the riots that broke out after the murder of the Maulvi of the Shahi Jama Masjid of Sambhal. Curfew was imposed in Sambhal for about 2 months. Recently, when the lock of Kartikeya Mahadev Temple was opened in Sambhal after 46 years, the riot victims had come there to have darshan. During this time, the victims had narrated their ordeal to ‘Aaj Tak’.
The scars of the 1978 riots are still alive
There is Murari Phad in Nakhasa area of Sambhal, it is here that many Hindus were hiding to escape the riots, out of which 25 Hindus were burnt to death. A total of 184 people were killed in this riot in 1978. According to Sambhal SP, the riots of 1978 were so terrible that after this the minority Hindu population in the district was forced to migrate. Today the Hindu population has reduced from 45 percent to 15 percent.
