Bank of Canada and former Governor of Bank of England, Mark Carney, have been elected the new leader of the ruling Liberal Party of Canada. With this, he is going to become the next Prime Minister of the country. He will replace Justin Trudeau, who resigned from the post earlier this year. 59 -year -old Carney secured votes of 86 percent of the members.

The newly entered politics argued that he is best suited to revive the party and to trade business talks with US President Donald Trump, threatening additional tariffs, affecting Canadian export-dependent economy.

This is the first time in Canada when an outsider will become Prime Minister who has no political background. Carney said that his experience as the first person to serve as the governor of two G7 central banks shows that he is best suited to deal with Trump.

Who is Mark Carney?

Mark Carney was born in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories Canada. He spent his childhood in admission. Subsequently, he went to America and studied economics from Harvard University. Later, he moved to the United Kingdom, where he earned a master’s degree first from Oxford University and then in Economics in 1995. Carney was appointed Governor of Bank of Canada in 2008.

His leadership soon got recognition and in 2010 Time magazine included him among the 25 most influential leaders in the world. In 2011, readers Digest Canada gave him the title of most reliable Canadian and in 2012, Euromani magazine declared him “Central Bank Governor of the Year”. In 2013, Carney became the Governor of Bank of England. In the history of 300 years of this institution became the first non-British citizen to lead it. He worked in this post till 2020.

In recent years, Mark Carney took over the important positions like the United Nations’ climate action and special envoy on finance and the head of the Bruckfield Asset Management. However, he resigned from these posts and decided to join the race to become the leader of Canada’s Liberal Party.

Trudeau said these things in his Pharavel speech

Justin Trudeau gave his last speech on Monday as Canadian Prime Minister. In his Pharavel speech, Trudeau urged people to stay in the future of the country. Talking to the crowd of members of the Liberal Party, Trudeau expressed pride in his tenure. He said, “Do not misunderstand me, I am very proud of what we have done in the last 10 years. But tonight, as a party, is about our future as a country.”

He addressed economic concerns, which gave a subtle reference to the policies of US President Donald Trump. He said, “We are a country that whenever we have to fight, we will go ahead and fight.”

He described the present moment to define the nation and said that continuous efforts are required for democracy and freedom. He said, “This requires courage, sacrifice, hope and hard work. We should not pay attention to all the great things achieved in the last 10 years. Instead we should motivate them to achieve even more in the next 10 years and decades.”
