Gujarat: Archaeological team was in a 10 feet deep pit, suddenly the soil caved in, IIT student died – Gujarat Lothal Incident IIT Delhi Student Killed Member Of Archaeological Team NTC

A major accident has occurred in Lothal, Gujarat. An IIT Delhi student has died due to mudslide at the archaeological site here. She was part of the team that had reached the archaeological site of Lothal to collect soil for research purposes. A sudden accident happened here and he lost his life.

When the research team was taking soil samples, the soil caved in. An IIT Delhi student died and a female professor was injured in the accident. The injured female professor was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Soil sunk in 10 feet pit

Lothal, located at a distance of 80 kilometers from Ahmedabad, is considered to be the center of importance of Harappan culture. A team of four members from IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Delhi had gone to this Lothal to collect samples for research purposes. Among them, two people had descended 10 feet into the pit to collect soil samples.

The student of IIT Delhi has been identified as 24-year-old Surbhi Verma. Professor Yama Dixit, a 45-year-old female archaeologist who was present with her, was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital for treatment through 108 ambulance.

Researchers had gone to collect samples

Ahmedabad Rural SP Omprakash Jat said that researchers from IIT Delhi and IIT Gandhinagar had gone to the archaeological site of Lothal to collect soil samples for research. Two of these people had descended into a 10 feet deep pit to collect samples, when suddenly the soil started sinking and Surbhi Verma and Yama Dixit got trapped in it.

To save both of them, local police team including ambulance and fire brigade immediately reached the spot but Surabhi Verma of IIT Delhi died and Professor Yama Dixit was saved and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
