A 28-year-old man was brutally murdered over old enmity in Basoi village of Dhenkanal district of Odisha. The incident was carried out on the first day of the new year. The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Sethi, son of late Ranji Sethi, who was allegedly attacked by Saroj Biswal (35), a resident of the same village.
According to local people, Biswal, who had a long-standing dispute with Sethi, attacked him with a bamboo stick when he was returning home in the afternoon. After Sethi became unconscious during the attack, the accused allegedly dismembered her body with an axe. The villagers also claimed that earlier Biswal had tried to attack Sethi’s wife and two young sons, but they managed to escape.
On receiving information, Kamakhyanagar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Gyan Ranjan Mishra and Parjang inspector in-charge (IIC) Priyabrata Das reached the spot and started investigation. A case of murder has been registered and raids are being conducted to nab the accused, who fled from the village soon after the attack. The police have intensified their search to punish the culprit. Both the accused and the deceased belonged to the same village. There was old enmity between them. The accused also had a criminal background in the area. After committing the murder he fled from the spot.
Dhenkanal SP said- Our team along with the scientific team visited the spot and interrogated and collected evidence. The body has been sent for postmortem. BNS 103 and SC/ST Act have been imposed against the accused as the deceased belonged to SC caste, now further investigation is going on.
Here the wife of the deceased said – ‘When my husband was going to the market to buy chicken, a person named Maku started attacking him. After a few minutes my son started shouting at him. When I reached the spot, that person attacked me and my son too. After a few minutes I saw that my husband was cut with a sword, I don’t know why all this happened to my husband.’
