A massive explosion occurred in a fuel tanker in Enugu, the south-eastern state of Nigeria. 18 people died in this blast. National Road Safety Agency spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide said the brakes of the tanker had failed, causing the driver to lose control of the tanker. The tanker collided with more than a dozen vehicles on an expressway, leading to this accident.
Ogungbemide said in his statement that 10 people were seriously injured in the accident. He has suffered injuries. Although he is out of danger, three people have sustained minor injuries. He told that 18 people have died in this accident, the bodies of the deceased have been burnt so badly that they cannot be identified.
Fuel tanker accidents have become common in Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil producing country. Officials blame bad roads and careless driving for this; dozens of people often lose their lives in such accidents.
