Israeli Army Chief Harji Halevi has taken responsibility for the October 7 attack. He said that as a result of his failures the attack took place that day and people were taken hostage. He said that he would resign on March 6, taking responsibility for the huge security lapse. His resignation was long expected in Israel, as the Hamas attack was the deadliest attack on Israel in a single day.
The Israeli Army Chief said that he will complete the Israel Defense Forces’ investigation into the October 7 attacks and strengthen the IDF’s preparedness for security challenges. It is not yet clear who will be Israel’s next Army Chief after Halevi’s resignation, but Halevi said that he will hand over the post of Army Chief to the already named successor. Along with the Army Chief, Major General Yaron Finkelman, head of the IDF Southern Command, has also announced his resignation.
Netanyahu against investigation to determine responsibility!
There is a demand for an investigation in Israel regarding the attack of October 7, 2023, in which 1200 civilians were killed and more or less 250 people were taken hostage. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was also in favor of this investigation earlier and had been saying in his statements that it would be investigated. However, it is now being said that he is not in favor of starting an investigation to determine the responsibility of his own government for the Hamas attack.
Israel-Hamas are exchanging prisoners
The war between Israel and Hamas that lasted for more than a year has now come to an end. This ceasefire is for 42 days in the first phase and during this time Hamas and Israel are exchanging prisoners. After this ceasefire, his government’s allies have also left him, and allegations like surrendering before Hamas have been made.
Netanyahu’s aim was to destroy Hamas!
While waging war against Hamas, Benjamin Netanyahu had announced that his mission was to destroy Hamas. During the year-long war, Israeli attacks killed top Hamas leaders such as Chief Yahya Sinwar and key leader working abroad Ismail Haniyeh, but Israel still had to agree to a ceasefire. With the mediation of Qatar and America, Hamas and Israel agreed to a ceasefire and during this time agreements were also made on the release of hostages.
