A shameful case has come to light in Banda, Uttar Pradesh. Here, the misdeeds of a staff member of the electricity department brought disrepute to the entire department. It is alleged that the employees of the electricity department were playing strange games of recovery in the name of electricity dues and were demanding money for drinking alcohol. When they did not get money to drink liquor, they immediately cut off the electricity of the victim.

The victim has complained to the electrical engineer and demanded action against the accused employee. At present, the Superintending Engineer SE of the Electricity Department has taken cognizance of the matter and ordered EE to investigate. SE says that action will definitely be taken after investigation.

The victim in the case, Shailendra Mishra, told that contract lineman secretary Pandey came to his shop yesterday. He checked the meter and calculated the electricity bill. Shailendra asked for two-four days’ time to pay the bill. On this the lineman demanded Rs 300 for his drinking. As soon as Shailendra refused to pay the money, the lineman called his fellow employees and got his electricity line cut.

The victim also told that after disconnecting the line, he arranged money from somewhere and went to the department and deposited the bill, only then his electricity line was connected. He further told that due to his bill being high in the past, he had deposited Rs 20,000 whereas around Rs 20,000 was still pending.

The victim shopkeeper told that he was asking for two to four days time to pay the outstanding electricity bill because there was an uproar in the family due to a serious disease like cancer. He said that his business runs on electricity. The victim went to the electricity house and lodged a written complaint with the Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) present there complaining about the misdeeds of the accused line and demanded strict action. At present, the officers of the department have said that there will be an investigation and have given assurance of action.
