Students in Bangladesh have once again taken to the streets. Students from several colleges in the capital Dhaka vandalized the government-owned Shaheed Suhrawardy College in protest against the death of a medical student. A mob of students entered the Suhrawardy College campus and vandalized 6 vehicles. After this, the crowd of protesters moved towards Kabi Nazrul Government College, tried to attack the college, but could not enter the college premises. During this time there was a clash between two groups, in which 30 people were injured.

The protesters also attacked the Dhaka National Medical College Hospital, where Abhijit Halder, an 18-year-old student of Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mulla College, died due to negligence on 18 November. The protesting students broke the gate and glass of the hospital.

Let us tell you that on November 16, Class 12 student Abhijeet was admitted to the hospital after suffering from dengue, where he died on November 18. On November 19, his roommates Siam and Aftab posted on Facebook that he died due to wrong treatment at the hospital. On November 21, his friends protested in front of the hospital. During this time many college students also joined him.

Army deployed in college hostels

On Sunday morning, students looted showrooms around Suhrawardy College. After this, the army was deployed around colleges, hostels and places of worship in Dhaka.

Loss of Rs 35 crore in Suhrawardy College

Principal of Suhrawardy College, Kakoli Mukherjee said that there has been a loss of around Rs 35 crore. As a principal and a teacher, I take all the blame on myself for not being able to teach basic manners to the students. Although they are from different colleges, after all they are our sons. They celebrated by looting books, money, certificates, documents, is this the work of a student? I tried to contact the police, but they said they were busy with the security of the National Medical College. Meanwhile they attacked here. I had no option but to save the college.

30 people injured in the clash

The protesters alleged that during the demonstration on November 21 over Avijit’s death, students of Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul College attacked students of Mulla College. Several thousand students, including Molla College, Dhaka College, City College, Notre Dame College, gathered again in front of the hospital, and protested over the death of the medical student. During this clash, 30 people were injured.

Bike, car and ambulance vandalized in Suhrawardy College

Due to the demonstration, panic spread in Suhrawardy College. The protesters vandalized three bikes, a car, a microbus and an ambulance parked on the college campus. They broke classroom and office furniture.
