A case of cheating on the pretext of high returns on investment has come to light in Thane, Maharashtra. Police have registered a case against 20 people for defrauding a 41-year-old mobile repair technician and other investors of Rs 26 lakh.

According to the police, the accused duped people by promising 12 to 15 times monthly returns on the initial investment in a cryptocurrency investment scheme between May 2022 and March 2024. He attracted people for investment by meeting them personally and contacting them over the phone.

According to the report of the news agency, a police officer said, ‘The accused induced the investors to invest in his scheme by luring them with huge earnings but later he stopped taking calls from the investors and did not return the invested amount. .’

One of the victims, who works in mobile repairing, lost his hard-earned money to this fraud. Other victims have also lodged their complaints. Thane Police Station official said that a case has been registered against the accused under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Maharashtra Depositors’ Interest Protection Act, 1999.

However, no accused has been arrested yet. The police is investigating the matter and trying to collect evidence related to the scam. The police have advised the general public to be cautious and avoid investment offers that promise exorbitant profits.
