These things in Australian media about Kohli
There was chaos in this match, at the center of which was Virat Kohli and 19-year-old debutant Sam Constas. This entire incident happened during the break between the 10th and 11th overs of the Australian innings on the first day of play. Then Sam Constas was hit on the shoulder by Virat Kohli when he was passing by the Indian player. Constas did not like this at all and said something to Kohli. In this matter, the International Cricket Council (ICC) took action and fined Kohli 20% of the match fee and gave one demerit point.
However, the Australian media did not seem happy with this decision of ICC. Virat Kohli has been targeted in Australian newspapers. ‘The West Australian’ newspaper used the word ‘Clown’ for Kohli. This newspaper published the headline – Clown Kohli. ‘The West Australian’ newspaper also described Kohli as ‘Sook’ (crying or coward).
The Daily Telegraph newspaper also took a dig at Virat Kohli. Praising Sam Constas, this newspaper published the headline – ‘King Kon’.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting looked unhappy with the ICC’s decision. Ponting believes that this punishment was very light. Ponting said, ‘I don’t think the punishment was harsh. Imagine if this happened at a grad game at the end of the week. He is a role model, so I personally don’t think the fine was severe enough.
Fox Sports published an article regarding the matter titled, “He wouldn’t be too proud.” Wide World of Sports (WWOS) headlined, “Kohli escapes ban in Konstas case.” Another article quoted Steve Waugh as saying, “He was extremely fortunate to avoid a ban.” The Sydney Morning Herald highlighted the issue in a different way. It was told how Kohli was not banned due to the change in the ICC code of conduct after the ball tampering scandal in 2018.
Virat Kohli got any demerit points for the first time since 2019. Demerit points remain on the player’s record for two years. 19 year old Constas, playing his debut Test, impressed with the bat. Costas scored 60 runs in 65 balls in Australia’s first innings, which included 6 fours and two sixes. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced to increase the match fees of its Test playing players in March this year. Players who play 75% of the matches of the season will get Rs 45 lakh for playing one Test, while players who play 50% to 74% will get Rs 30 lakh. This match fee will be available in addition to the central contract.
Australia’s playing XI for the MCG test: Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstans, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey (wicketkeeper), Pat Cummins (captain), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland.
