Music, Culture, and India’s Global Potential

During their conversation, PM Modi inquired about Dosanjh’s international experiences, including his performance at Coachella in April 2023. Dosanjh responded, “I feel that festivals like Coachella have achieved great heights, but I believe we can create something even bigger in India. People travel across the globe for such events.” Highlighting India’s innate musical talent, Dosanjh remarked how even untrained individuals in India often display extraordinary musical abilities.

He shared, “Whether we are eating at a dhaba or listening to someone sing in Rajasthani, the melody is often so beautiful that I feel like I should stop singing. These are individuals who are not professionals, yet they perform better than me. Such is the richness of art in India.”

PM Modi’s Vision for a Creative Revolution

Prime Minister Modi agreed with Dosanjh’s insights and mentioned his plans to showcase India’s creative potential through the upcoming World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES), set to take place from February 5 to 9. “We are such a big country, and most of the world’s films are made here. India has the biggest creative industry. Through WAVES, I aim to start a global movement to make India the center of the creative world,” the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi also recalled discussing India’s diverse music culture with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel. “I told her that in India, the music before sunrise is different from the music after sunrise. Whether it’s a sad or happy occasion, we have music for every situation. She was fascinated by our diversity,” he said.

When I visited different cities, I truly understood why we say ‘Mera Bharat Mahaan.’”
