There is disappointment on the faces of customers after the robbery in Chinhat branch of Indian Overseas Bank in Lucknow. They are worried as to how they will get back the items kept in their locker which have been looted by the miscreants. However, bank officials have assured them. On the other hand, the police have also recovered the jewellery, cash etc. looted from the miscreants after the encounter.

The bank said it regrets this unfortunate robbery incident and expresses its gratitude to the police and local law enforcement authorities for their prompt and efficient action in arresting the suspects within 24 hours.

Let us tell you that on the second day of the robbery in the Indian Overseas Bank on Sunday, people started coming to see their lockers from the morning itself. At the same time, bank officials and employees were trying to convince the customers. While some customers were refusing to avail the locker facility, there were some who wanted the return of their belongings.

Many customers had brought diaries with them, which contained lists of items kept in the locker. It is alleged that the bank did not inform any locker holder about the locker being broken. There was a lot of resentment among the people regarding this. Customers said that they came to know about the locker breaking through the media.

42 lockers were broken

It is known that there were 90 lockers in the Indian Overseas Bank located at Matiyari intersection in Chinhat, out of which 42 were broken and looted by the dacoits. Gang members from Bihar had entered the Indian Overseas Bank in Chinhat in the early hours of 23rd December by cutting a 2.5 feet hole in the wall. They looted valuables from 42 out of 90 lockers.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Eastern Zone) Shashank Singh said that the gang consisted of seven members, six of whom hail from different districts of Bihar. The seventh accused, Vipin Kumar Verma, is a resident of Lucknow. It was Vipin Verma who did the recce of the bank and made arrangements for accommodation, food, vehicles etc. of the gang members in Lucknow. At present, there are two miscreants in this encounter I have been killed. Three have been caught. Gold and silver etc. have been recovered from these miscreants, which they had looted from the bank locker.
