60 runs in the last 8 overs
Captain Shubman Gill scored 60 runs for Gujarat while his partner Opar Sai Sudarshan scored a half -century innings of 56 runs. Sudarshan hit his fourth half -century of the session and set a platform for a big score with Gill. But the bowlers of the home team made a strong comeback and put three wickets and put a brake on the scoring pace. After the best partnership of the session for the first wicket, the visiting team could score only 60 runs in the last eight overs.
The pair of Sudarshan and Gill bounded in almost every over and harassed domestic bowlers. The Gujarat team completed their half -century in the sixth over when Sudarshan took the ball of Avesh Khan (one wicket for 32 runs) to the backward square leg for fours. The visiting team scored 64 runs in the powerplay. While Gill batted aggressively, Sudarshan was restrained and supported him at the other end.
The captain completed his half -century in 31 balls with one run off Digvesh Rathi (one wicket for 30 runs) in the ninth over. The Gujarat Titans scored 103 runs for 10 overs without any loss. Sudarshan completed his half -century by sweeping the fine leg boundary. The hosts finally succeeded on the first ball of the 13th over when Gill was caught by the long -on boundary off the ball of Avesh.
After the time out, Sai Sudarshan lifted the ball of Bishnoi (two wickets for 36) above the extra cover but Nicholas Puran caught a brilliant catch. Bishnoi also hunted Washington Sundar in this over. Jose Butler (16 runs) could not play a big innings and became a victim of Digvesh Rathi. Shardul Thakur was trying to make a hat -trick in the final over but missed.
Lucknow easily chased target
Rishabh Pant came down to the opener in place of Mitchell Marsh. He failed to score fast but was not the case with Aiden Markram. He hit Mohammad Siraj in the first over. Siraj K’s 20 runs in his second over. This over took four fours. It was here that Lucknow batsmen dominated. After the powerplay, Lucknow scored 61 runs. Markram hit 28 off 20 balls while Pant hit 17 runs off 16 balls. Pant was dismissed after playing 21 runs in the 7th over.
After that Puran, who came out to bat, was in a different mood. He hit a six in the 8th over against Rashid Khan. Puran and Markram scored 24 runs against Sai Kishore in the 10th over and took the team to 114 runs. In this over, Markram completed the fifty on 26 balls. He became the victim of the famous Krishna by scoring 58 off 31 balls in the 12th over. By then the match had gone out of Gujarat’s grip. Puran put fifty off just 23 balls in the 13th over.
In the last 5 overs, Lucknow needed only 27 runs to win. But Rashid Khan dismissed Puran in the 16th over. After this, Lucknow batsmen started battling against spin bowlers. Lucknow scored 6 runs in the last over. On the second ball, Ayush Badoni hit a four against Sai Kishore and won the team by hitting a six on the next ball.
