11 times more amount

Venkatesh Iyer’s base price was Rs 2 crore. In this way Iyer got 11 times more amount. 29-year-old Iyer played 10 matches in his first season i.e. the year 2021, in which he scored more than 350 runs. He played an important role in taking the team to the finals, but in the season held in UAE, KKR was defeated by Chennai Super Kings in the title match.

In total, in 51 matches in four seasons, Venkatesh Iyer has scored 1326 runs at a strike rate of 137.13 and three wickets. In the year 2023, Venkatesh Iyer became the second KKR batsman after Brendon McCullum to score an IPL century after 15 years. Iyer was the hero of KKR’s victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024 final. While chasing the easy target of 114 runs, he scored unbeaten 52 runs.

KKR had retained six players before the auction, so their Right-to-Match (RTM) option had ended. In return, KKR had to spend a huge sum to get Iyer’s services back. Last season, Kolkata had retained him for only Rs 8 crore. Venkatesh Iyer was once considered the replacement for Hardik Pandya. He has played nine T20 and two ODI matches for India, in which he scored 157 runs and took five wickets.
