IPL: These 5 players kept changing sides throughout the night, never dreamed that such a big bid would be made – five most unexpected bidding of ipl 2024 mega auction day 1

The mega auction is underway in Jeddah city of Saudi Arabia for the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League. Sunday was the first day of the auction, in which a total of Rs 467.95 crore was spent on 72 players. Rishabh Pant was bought by Lucknow Supergiants for a historic Rs 27 crore, which is also the biggest bid in the history of the tournament. Apart from this, Shreyas Iyer was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26 crore 75 lakh. Both these teams were also looking for their respective captains. But there were some players for whom bids were higher than expected. Even these players themselves would not have thought that they could lose so much money in the auction.

Venkatesh Iyer

The Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise decided not to retain its IPL-winning captain Shreyas Iyer and spent big money to include Venkatesh Iyer in the squad. Venkatesh has played nine T20 Internationals and two ODI matches for India. He became the third most expensive buy in the IPL mega auction after Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants, Rs 27 crore) and Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings, Rs 26.75 crore).

Noor Ahmed

The base price of Afghanistan’s young spin sensation Noor Ahmed was Rs 2 crore, but Chennai Super Kings (CSK) signed him by paying a hefty sum of Rs 10 crore. Gujarat Titans exercised their right to match card for Noor for Rs 5 crore. After GT’s withdrawal, CSK increased the bid and signed him for Rs 10 crore. Noor Ahmed was a part of Gujarat Titans for just Rs 30 lakh in the IPL 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Rasikh Salaam Dar

Royal Challengers Bangalore surprised everyone by buying uncapped player Rasikh Salam Dar for Rs 6 crore instead of his base price of Rs 30 lakh. He became the most expensive uncapped player on the first day of this IPL auction. Rasikh had a stellar performance for India A in the Emerging Asia Cup.

Josh Hazlewood

Josh Hazlewood, who had a base price of Rs 2 crore, was surprised by Royal Challengers Bangalore by buying him for Rs 12.50 crore. Hazlewood is an Australian fast bowler who is considered a Test specialist. The length he bowls can sometimes be difficult for the batsmen. But it remains to be seen how effective she will be in the death overs.

glen maxwell

Australia’s explosive batsman was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 4.20 crore. You can count this price in the category of normal. It can also be said that how can this price be high for a dangerous power hitter like Maxwell. But Maxwell’s record in IPL is very bad. Last season, he was able to score only 52 runs in 10 matches for RCB. Even before this, Maxwell has played for Punjab.
