With the aim of further improving bilateral relations, India and China have decided to restart the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra which was closed since 2020. During the meeting between Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, New Delhi and Beijing agreed to resume direct flights.

Consensus reached regarding Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement, ‘Both sides have decided to restart the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in the summer of 2025. The relevant mechanism will discuss its modalities as per existing agreements. They also agreed to soon hold an India-China expert level meeting to resume provision of hydrological data and discuss other cooperation related to trans-border rivers.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on China visit

Vikram Misri was on a two-day visit to Beijing for the meeting of the Foreign Secretary-Deputy Minister mechanism between India and China. This meeting was organized in Kazan, Russia in accordance with the agreements reached between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in October. In the meeting, both sides agreed to take important steps to stabilize and improve bilateral relations.

During the meeting, both countries agreed to take appropriate steps to promote and facilitate people-to-people dialogue, including dialogue between the media and think-tanks.

’75th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations’

The Ministry of External Affairs further said in the statement, ‘Both sides recognize that 2025, marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China, should be used to create better awareness about each other and mutual trust and confidence between the people. To restore diplomacy efforts must be redoubled. Both sides will organize several activities to mark this anniversary.
