As we gear up the New Year, Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan and musical maestro AR Rahman treated fans with a much-anticipated collaboration. While it has been over two decades since we have seen them come together, fans were eagerly waiting for this collab in Thug Lifewhich is slated for release next year. But prior to that, the duo decided to join hands for an unconventional composition that pays tribute to the legendary philosopher-poet Thiruvalluvar.

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin announces this new collab on social media

Taking to Nadu spreading the words of wisdom of Thiruvalluvar and celebrating the Indian philosopher’s works. In the caption shared by Stalin, he wrote in Tamil which when loosely translated reads, “Thanks and congratulations to Kalaignani @ikamalhaasan and Isaipuyal @arrahman who created the ‘Valluvamalai’ at the Valluva Pottruthum Silver Festival!”

Who is Thiruvalluvar?

Thiruvalluvar, commonly known as Valluvar, was an Indian poet and philosopher. He is best known as the author of the Tirukkurral, a collection of couplets on ethics, political and economic matters, and love. The text is considered an exceptional and widely cherished work of Tamil literature. His statue which is constructed in the middle of the ocean in Kanyakumari is referred to as Statue of Wisdom, celebrating his literary works.

About Kamal Haasan and AR Rahman’s next collaboration

Readers would be aware that the two of them will be joining hands for Thug Life, which is directed by Mani Ratnam. The latter will be reuniting with good friend Kamal Haasan, 37 years later Herowhich was their last project together. Apart from Haasan, the film will also feature Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan along with a host of Tamil and Hindi actors in key roles. While the teaser of the movie has sparked ample excitement, the film is expected to hit big screens on June 5, 2025.
