After Sanjay Roy, convicted of rape and murder in Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, was sentenced to life imprisonment, his mother has imprisoned herself in the house. He is not ready to meet anyone. After this decision, a crowd of media and common people gathered outside his house. Seeing this, he screamed in anger and closed the door of the house.

Sanjay Roy’s 75-year-old mother Malti asked people to leave him alone. She shouted, “I don’t want to say anything. I’m ashamed of everything. Please go away.” After this he closed the door of the house from inside. Earlier, despite his son being held guilty in this case, he had expressed his feelings in a conversation with the media.

Malti Roy had said that being the mother of three daughters, she could understand the pain of the parents of the deceased doctor. Whatever punishment her son receives, she will support it. She said, “If the court decides to hang my son, I have no objection because his crime has been proven in the eyes of the law. I will cry alone.”

She further said that she will accept it as a game of fate, because this is what is written in her destiny. No one from Sanjay Roy’s family was present during the sentencing hearing in Sealdah Court on Monday. When the judge asked about his family, he said that he had a mother, but no one had come to meet him since his arrest.

Policemen taking Sanjay Roy to jail after the announcement of punishment…

Sanjay Roy has four sisters. One of them died many years ago. One of his sisters had said on Saturday, “There are media reports that my brother was not alone at the crime scene. So I hope that a thorough investigation should be done to find out the involvement of any person in such a crime.” Other people involved should also be punished.

People gathered around Malti’s house said that Sanjay Roy cannot commit crime alone. There might have been other people with him, who have not been identified yet. Urmila Mahato, a neighbor, said, “I have seen him during his childhood days. He was admitted to boxing classes. He joined the Civic Volunteer Wing of Kolkata Police three years ago.”

Urmila Mahato told that after joining the boxing club, Sanjay Roy fell into bad company. He started drinking alcohol. However, it was unimaginable that he would be convicted of raping and murdering a woman. Sealdah Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das on Saturday found him guilty of committing crimes against the trainee doctor.
