During the discussion on the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha, Home Minister Amit Shah made a scathing attack on the Congress and said that there is democracy in the country and there should not be nepotism. Shah said, ‘We are a secular nation, there should be no room for appeasement here. Congress always kept nepotism, appeasement and corruption at the forefront. Leave these three tasks, the public will make you win.
Taking aim at Congress, Shah said, ‘I have heard many slogans of Mohabbat ki Dukaan. I have also heard speeches from those who have the ambition to open shops in every village. But love is not a thing to be sold, it is an emotion, which is felt.

Congress cornered on many issues
Amit Shah accused Congress of amending the Constitution to violate civil rights and handing over Katchatheevu island to Sri Lanka overnight. He said, ‘Kachchativu island is our territory, but today we do not have it. Congress handed it over to Sri Lanka without discussing it in Parliament.

Referring to the Emergency, Shah said, ‘You have not only considered the party as a family property, you have also made the Constitution a family property. No one in the world has done such injustice to the Constitution. Many people were put in jail during the Emergency, many of whom are sitting with you today.
Reservation was also mentioned
Shah also attacked Congress on the issue of reservation, saying, ‘Kaka Kalelkar Committee was formed in 1955. That report on OBC reservation neither came in the House nor in the Cabinet. It was kept in the library. If the report had been paid attention to at that time, there would have been no need for the Mandal Commission.

Shah said that the Mandal Commission report came into force when Congress was out of power. He said, ‘Rajiv Gandhi had said on giving reservation to backward classes that it would lead to lack of merit. At the same time, Modiji gave constitutional recognition to the OBC Commission and gave reservation in NITI-UG.
