This time the New Year was celebrated with great pomp in Noida and Greater Noida. On December 31 and January 1, people celebrated through liquor parties, which led to the sale of liquor worth about Rs 20 crore in the district.

The Excise Department said that 126 temporary licenses were issued on this occasion, from which the department received a revenue of Rs 13 lakh. Under these licenses, people can organize liquor parties at their homes or commercial places.

Liquor worth Rs 20 crores sold on New Year

Excise Department District Officer Subodh Kumar said that on December 31, the timing of liquor shops was extended by one hour. On normal days, shops open from 10 am to 10 pm, but on December 31 they remained open till 11 pm. In this extra hour of time, the department got 10% more revenue from liquor sales.

Subodh Kumar also told that a license for a day is given for Rs 4000 for liquor party at home and Rs 11000 for a commercial place. This year the demand for these licenses increased by 20%.

26 temporary licenses were issued

To stop the sale of illegal liquor and keep an eye on overcharging, the Excise Department had formed seven teams, which were continuously monitoring. The department has seen record sales of liquor and increase in revenue positively on New Year.
