Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar recently shared his thoughts on Indian cinema’s enduring legacy of superstars during a podcast. In a discussion about the evolution of stardom in the Indian film industry, Bhandarkar highlighted iconic actors who have made a significant impact on cinema over the decades.

Reflecting on the journey of superstars from the golden era to the present, Bhandarkar said, “The stars of Indian cinema, not just now but if you have to list it from the 50s till now—Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, Dilip Saab, Rajesh Khanna sir, Dharmendraji, Amitabh Bachchanji—and obviously if we see Shah Rukh, Salman, they are all superstars, real superstars, which is madness.”

Adding to his admiration for the current generation of actors, Bhandarkar singled out South Indian actor Allu Arjun as a true superstar of today’s era. “In today’s day and age, I think Allu Arjun is a superstar,” he remarked.
Allu Arjun’s rise to pan-Indian fame, especially after the success of Pushpa: The Rise (2021), has earned him recognition across the country. His performances and screen presence have cemented his position as one of the leading actors in Indian cinema.
