Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee has revealed a shocking incident involving his wife, Shabana Raza, and filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Shabana, also known professionally as Neha Bajpai, experienced this during her debut film Kareeb (1998).

What Happened During Shabana’s Debut Film?
Speaking to Mid-Day, Manoj Bajpayee shared that Vidhu Vinod Chopra bit Shabana’s hand during the filming of KareebThe incident occurred while shooting a song where Shabana had difficulty remembering which hand to raise in a particular scene. Bajpayee explained, “Because Shabana didn’t have any film training of that sort, in the song she was raising a different hand altogether. In the scene, she was supposed to raise her left hand, but she would end up raising her right hand… so for her to raise the left hand without forgetting, Vidhu bit her there.”
The veteran actor further remarked, “Nobody can do this with me.” He explained that Shabana, being new to the industry at the time, thought such behavior was typical of filmmakers. “She must have thought they are all mad geniuses; they are capable of doing anything they want,” he added.
Shabana Raza’s Brief Career in Bollywood
Shabana Raza made her Bollywood debut with Kareebco-starring Bobby Deol. Despite being a promising talent, her journey in the film industry was short-lived. After starring in films like Fiza (2000) opposite Hrithik Roshan and Alli Thandha Vaanam (2001) with Prabhu Deva, she disappeared from the screen after her last film, Acid Factory (2009).
According to Manoj Bajpayee, Shabana didn’t leave films voluntarily but stopped getting work due to industry politics. He said, “She didn’t quit films, she stopped getting work for some reason. Too many politics here and there. She is also an outsider and didn’t have any mentor.”
Bobby Deol’s Account of the Incident
In a 2001 interview with Filmfare, Bobby Deol recalled the same incident, adding more details about Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s strictness on set. “He would constantly yell at her,” Bobby shared. He recounted that when Shabana couldn’t get a scene right after multiple takes, Chopra bit her hand in frustration. “I was too shocked to react,” Bobby admitted.
