India Today Business Today AI Conference 2024 was also attended by Sandhya Devanathan, Head and Vice President of Meta India. He discussed the advancement of AI and its impact in India. He told that 50 crore people around the world are using Meta AI, in which India is a big participant.
He told, ‘When it comes to LLAMA downloads, India is a big market for us.’ Devanathan has emphasized India’s role in the adoption of AI and shaping AI technology.
How is Meta AI helping?
Devanathan emphasized META’s mission to make AI (Artificial Intelligence) accessible to all people. He talked about making it more easy and inclusive. Devanathan said, ‘The purpose of Meta AI is to enable everyone’s access to AI.’ Meta’s open source approach, through models like Sarvam GenAI, has enabled developers to drive innovation tailored to local needs.

Talking about privacy issues, especially regarding products like Meta’s Ray-Ban Smart Glasses, Devanathan talked about prioritizing safeguards. He said, ‘This is why you cannot take pictures or videos with these glasses without turning on the light.’ He acknowledged the evolving nature of AI models. Devanathan said, ‘All generative AI models are still in the developing stage. No model is perfect yet.
How does Meta work on security?
On Meta’s security system, he mentioned ‘red teaming’, where internal and external experts find and fix flaws. Devanathan said that open-sourcing technology strengthens its credibility, because the global developer community helps in improving it.

He envisioned a future where AI agents would improve customer service and operations of small businesses. Devanathan said, ‘All companies or businesses that have an AI agent that learns from you will increase the productivity and profits of small businesses.’
