While #MeToo was reignited after the findings of Justice Hema Committee report resulting in many women throwing allegations at some of the most renowned and influential personas of the Malayalam film industry, it also resulted in the resignation of several members of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists). Superstar Mohanlal, who was heading it as the President until last year, was also among the ones who walked out of the organization. After maintaining silence for quite some time now, as the new year of 2025 kick started, Mohanlal decided to open up about AMMA and its contributions.

Mohanlal throws light on the current condition of AMMA
In a recent event, as reported by News18, Mohanlal insisted that the organization is not facing the best of times. The Malayalam superstar described the current condition of AMMA as ‘dark clouds hovering’ around it but at the same, expressed confidence and hope for a better future. “We will reach the light soon,” he shared as he addressed the audience at the event. He further went on to elaborate on the importance of the work done by the organization and added, “We do much more than people realize, and we have the potential to do things no other organization can — not just for our members, but for the public as well.”
Suresh Gopi asks audience to refer to it as ‘AMMA’ aka Mother
Actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi was also an integral part of the event and opened up about the organization. While neither of the superstars made any reference to major sexual harassment allegations that have been subjected upon celebrities associated with AMMA, they showcased immense faith and belief in rebuilding the organization’s name and fame. Gopi went on to talk about the name given to the organization and said, “It was the late actor Murali who gave the name ‘AMMA’ to the association, and that’s how it should be pronounced. We will not obey what outside bosses say. This ‘A’ dot ‘M’ dot ‘M’ dot ‘A’ dot… They can keep that at their own houses. It is AMMA for us,” he insisted.
