The bench said that the state has money to distribute free drinks, but not to pay the salaries and pensions of judges. The SC bench also mentioned the announcements being made in Delhi elections where, ‘some are talking about giving Rs 2100 and some Rs 2500.’
All India Judges Association had filed a petition in the Supreme Court in 2015 regarding the salary and retirement benefits of judges. It was said in it that the judges are not getting their salaries on time and that the judges are also being deprived of the benefits they get after retirement. This case was heard by Justice BR Gavai and Justice AG Masih.
