Baroda: Delhi Capitals defeated Mumbai Indians by two wickets on Saturday in a thrilling match of the Women’s Premier League on the basis of a restrained performance of the batsmen after excellent bowling. Choosing the first fielding, Delhi stopped Mumbai Indians for 164 runs in 19.1 overs. For Mumbai, Net Skiver Brant scored 80 not out and Harmanpreet Kaur scored 42 off 22 balls. In response, Shefali Verma gave Delhi an aggressive start by scoring 43 off 18 balls and Delhi did not lose any wickets for 60 runs but lost four wickets within 16 runs. After this, Mumbai Indians returned to the match and almost reached close to victory.

Delhi won in the last over

Ellis Capsi (16), Anabel Sutherland (13) and Sara Bryce (21) could not stand but Nikki Prasad scored an unbeaten 27 and brought the team to victory. Delhi needed 21 runs in the last 12 balls and four wickets were safe. Ninth number batsman Radha Yadav hit a six and Nikki hit a four but was dismissed on the fifth ball. Arundhati Yadav won the last ball with two runs. Although the chance of run out was definitely made on the last ball, but the Delhi team managed to win. There is also a ruckus on social media on this decision of the umpire.

Skiver Brant’s innings deteriorated

Earlier, the Skiver Brant scored a brilliant half -century for Mumbai but could not get support from other batsmen, which made Delhi Indians out for 164 runs. Skiver Brant hit 13 fours in an unbeaten innings of 80 runs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also scored 42 runs in 22 balls and completed 8000 runs in T20 cricket. Both added 73 runs in 40 balls in the third wicket partnership. Delhi bowlers, however, made a brilliant comeback, taking eight wickets within 59 runs and dismissed Mumbai for 164 runs in 19.1 overs.

Shikha Pandey’s strong bowling

Fast bowler Shikha Pandey took two wickets for 14 runs while Minnu Mani took an affordable bowling and took one wicket for 23 runs. The rest of the bowlers proved to be expensive. Pandey sent both openers Heli Mathews (0) and Yastika Bhatia (11) to the pavilion. After six overs of Powerplay, Mumbai had 42 runs for two wickets. Alice Capies conceded 19 runs in an over. Skiver Bunt and Harmanpreet scored 18 runs in Radha Yadav’s 8th over which included three fours and a six.

Mumbai scored 87 runs for two wickets after 10 overs. Harmanpreet hit Anabel Sutherland three fours and a six but became a victim in the 14th over. The Skiver Brant kept one end but the wickets kept falling from the other end.
