With the return of Donald Trump as President in America, global equations will be seen changing in the coming times. Trump has made his intentions clear even before taking the oath.
He has bluntly said that as soon as he takes over the reins of the country, he is going to take big steps against China, Canada and Mexico. Now China has also reacted to this statement of Trump.
China’s Embassy in Washington has said that neither China nor America will win in this trade war. Chinese Embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu said in a statement that regarding the US tariffs on China, we believe that the economic relations and trade cooperation between the two countries are based on mutual interests. But no one will win in this trade war.
Liu said that after the agreement reached between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping last year, we had taken steps to deal with drug smuggling. We had also informed the American administration in this regard. But to say that China is deliberately supplying drugs like fentanyl to America is far from reality.
Why is Trump angry with China?
Trump said that he has talked to the Chinese administration regarding the large number of drugs being supplied to America from China, especially fentanyl, but to no avail. Representatives of China told me that they would give death penalty to drug dealers if caught but unfortunately China never followed this and drug shipments continued to come to America from China. These drugs are being transported to America mainly through Mexico. We are going to impose additional 10 percent tariff on China.
This decision of Trump may affect the supply chain of North America and affect the business here. Earlier, China’s Policy Advisor Zheng Yongnian had given a big statement regarding Trump’s new team. He had said that the biggest threat to China could be from Trump’s team consisting of Elon Musk and Indian-origin businessman Vivek Ramaswami.
