After completing his first visit to Nigeria on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Brazil to attend the G-20 summit. Earlier, he held bilateral talks with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and interacted with the Indian community. PM Modi reached the capital of Nigeria on Sunday morning on his first visit to the West African country after a gap of 17 years. After the conclusion of his visit, PM Modi posted on Instagram that he thanked Nigeria for the productive visit. This will provide strength and enthusiasm to India-Nigeria friendship.

The Ministry of External Affairs said in a post on Twitter that Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his visit in Abuja, Nigeria. During this time he was honored with Nigeria’s national award, Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON). He has become the second foreign dignitary to receive this honour.

PM Modi held bilateral talks with President Tinubu and said India gives high priority to its strategic partnership with Nigeria and will work towards boosting ties in a number of sectors including defence, energy and trade.

PM Modi described the Indian expatriate community, numbering around 60,000, as a key pillar of India-Nigeria relations and thanked Tinubu for ensuring their welfare. The Prime Minister also announced that India was sending 20 tonnes of relief material for Nigerians affected by the floods last month.
