On Tuesday, a boat full of devotees overturned in the confluence before the Amrit bath of Maghi Purnima in Prayagraj Mahakumbh. During the accident, there were 10 devotees in the boat, out of which two devotees have gone missing and 8 have been admitted to the ICU of SRN Hospital in critical condition.
As soon as the information of the accident was received, the police and administration immediately took action and took the injured to the hospital and a search operation has also started by the NDRF-water police team to search for the missing devotees.
Police said that at the time of the accident, 10 devotees were riding on the boat, all were wearing a life jacket. 8 people have been admitted to the hospital for treatment in critical condition, while two people missing in the accident are being searched. The devotees in the boat are from Dehradun and Karnataka.
Special arrangements regarding Amrit bath
At the same time, on Wednesday, the fair administration has made detailed arrangements including a special traffic plan for the fair area and health workers have also been kept on alert for the Amrit bath to be held on the occasion of Maghi Purnima.
An official statement said that the fair area has been declared a ‘no vehicle zone’ from 4 am on Tuesday, but with exemption for emergency and essential services, this rule will be applicable in the entire city from 5 pm.
The statement said that the parking sites specified for public and private vehicles have been marked to avoid traffic chaos, so that the devotees do not have any problem in reaching the foot bathing ghat.
