A gram panchayat in Bathinda district of Punjab has announced a cash incentive of Rs 21,000 to those families who will not serve liquor and play DJ at wedding functions. Ballo village sarpanch Amarjeet Kaur said on Tuesday that this decision has been taken to encourage villagers not to spend extravagantly in wedding ceremonies and to curb the misuse of alcohol.

The Sarpanch said, ‘There should be a stadium in the village so that various sports can be organised.’ The Panchayat has also proposed to set up a biogas plant in the village.
