At the Red Sea Film Festival, Ranbir Kapoor reminisced about Rockstar (2011), the iconic film that marked a turning point in his career. In a heartfelt conversation, Kapoor revealed the creative journey behind the film and the profound impact it had on him as an actor.
Ranbir Kapoor recalls spending three to four months in Chennai with AR Rahman for Rockstar’s music: “Journey was so compelling that it didn’t feel like hard work”
The Beginning of a Transformative Experience
,Rockstar was a very important film in my career. It really changed how people saw me,” Kapoor stated. He credited director Imtiaz Ali and composer AR Rahman for creating a deeply inspiring environment. “Spending three to four months with Mr. Rahman in Chennai, watching him create the music for the film, was a privilege,” he said.
Kapoor described the film’s creative process as magical, highlighting the synergy between Ali’s vision and Rahman’s genius. “There are very few films in an actor’s life where inspiration comes naturally. With Rockstareverything was inspiring—the character, the music, and the collaboration.”
Immersing in Jordan’s Journey
To bring Jordan, the protagonist, to life, Kapoor immersed himself in the character’s emotional depth and struggles. “The character’s evolution and journey were so compelling that it didn’t feel like hard work. It was a ride that just happened,” he said, reflecting on how rare such roles are in an actor’s career.
The Magic of Shooting ‘Kun Faya Kun’
Kapoor shared a memorable moment from shooting the iconic ‘‘Kun faya kun’ sequence at the Nizamuddin Dargah in Delhi. “We stayed there for three days, and the spirituality of the place added another layer to the experience. Everything felt so authentic and magical,” he recalled.
