The Rapid Rail running on Delhi-Meerut route will no longer be just a means of commuting, but you will also be able to experience shopping at its stations. In fact, NCRTC (National Capital Region Transport Corporation) has expressed its desire to develop the rapid rail stations on the Delhi-Meerut route as commercial centres.

The objective of this initiative is to develop parking infrastructure and passenger centric facilities at RRTS stations, so that the surrounding areas can be developed as business hubs. With this project, RRTS stations will no longer be just transport hubs, but will emerge as vibrant commercial hubs with a mix of modern amenities and business opportunities.

As part of this initiative, parking lots can be developed along with commercial amenities such as outlets, food courts, offices, service apartments and studio apartments. The development will create a collective hub that will cater to the immediate needs of passengers as well as provide leisure, business and short stay facilities, thereby enriching the overall passenger experience.

NCRTC has invited expressions of interest for lease and development of integrated parking and commercial spaces on the RRTS corridor including six major stations – DPS Rajnagar Guldhar, Duhai, Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar South, Modi Nagar North and Meerut South. The initiative aims to optimize the utilization of parking spaces by integrating them with commercial development, thereby enhancing passenger convenience and station utility.

Let us tell you that adequate parking spaces have been developed at RRTS stations for the convenience of passengers. NCRTC has invited developers to use these spaces till December 27, 2024. Interested applicants can get detailed information and application guidelines on the official NCRTC website.

Currently, Namo Bharat train services are operating on a 42 km stretch of the RRTS corridor, connecting nine stations from Sahibabad to Meerut South. The entire corridor is 82 km long, which extends from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. Trials are also underway at Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar stations, which extend beyond Sahibabad on the Delhi section, as part of a phased implementation.
