Chennai Super Kings have suffered a major setback as Ruturaj Gaikwad has been dropped from the remaining IPL 2025 matches due to fracture in the elbow. He briefly abandoned this role in 2022, handed over the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja, but Dhoni had to handle control again between the season due to poor results. Chennai Super Kings currently ranks second from below in the points table, winning only one of the five matches. He has suffered his biggest domestic defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 18 years of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
